Hanging Ten in Baler Beach, The Philippines!

Baler in the Philippines

I’ll start out by saying that I am about as amateur a surfer as they come. I’ve only been a few times in my life, and until recently, have only been able to get up a few times and actually ride a wave from start to finish. My first experience surfing was spent on a remote coast of Guatemala with ruthless rip currents and 5 foot waves (that’s measured from the top of the water’s surface!), so basically, I got myself torn a new one. Exploring Colonial Manila!

Colonial Manila

When it comes to Asia, century old catholic cathedrals, all signs written in English and Hispanic first and last names don’t usually come to mind, but then again, not many people have ever been to The Philippines.

Before setting out to this exotic country in South East Asia comprised of over 7,000 islands, I really didn’t know what to expect. Continue reading →

Why are Americans so Fat?

Obesity in America

Yes, I’m American, and my country is full of fat people. It’s the truth. With the average adult weight in the USA coming in at over 180 lbs, and the third highest in the world, you better bet there are some pudgers NOT walking the streets (they wouldn’t be fat if they did). Armed with a degree in exercise physiology, a personal training certification and years of traveling abroad under my belt, I’ve always wondered why are we Americans heftier than the rest? Here are a few personal theories. Continue reading →

How Traveling has Helped Me Succeed in Business

My Company at a networking event

at a networking event promoting my company, Write that Right.

I’d first like to start out by saying that I have no background in business, marketing, econ, advertising, or anything remotely useful when you think of shaking hands and smiling after a successful deal. In fact, I don’t come from a family of business savvy 1 percenters either. While my parents did well for themselves, it’s because they are pretty smart and were able to leverage that into succesfull careers in both law and medicine.

At the ripe old age of 25, I have managed to become a decently successful entrepreneur. I now own a web development/internet marketing company and work as a consultant for experiential marketing campaigns and events. When I learned SEO for WordPress, things really begin to take off as I was able to hone those skills and offer them to my clients. I’d love to say the reason for doing pretty well is because I went to an Ivy League business school and now have a deep network of old money big wigs, but, I didn’t. I think the main reason I can attribute my success up to this point is because of my love of travel, that and graduating in 2010 and forced into the working world when the job market sucked more than Monica Lewinsky on two shots of oval office cognac. Here’s my thought process. Continue reading →

Top Five Dumbest Olympic Sports in History

Ah, the Olympics: the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat- the rooting for the home team while on the couch. The Summer and Winter Olympic events convey the utmost in agility, speed, skill and sportsmanship, whether it’s figure skating, gymnastics, skiing, swimming or… tug of war?

Okay, so maybe not all Olympic events showcase epitomized athleticism. Here are five of the
most noteworthy and dumbest Olympic sports ever played.

Trampolining

Remember when you were a kid and you desperately wanted to become friends with anyone
who had a trampoline in their yard? If you were one of those kids, you may have ended up as an Olympic Trampolining master. In fairness, it sounds nerve-racking to fly through the air doing acrobatic stunts and then try to miss the metal part on the way down. This one is still an Olympic event!

Trampolining London 2012

Olympic Trampolining is one of the weirdest Olympic events.
