Top 5 Events in Orlando, Florida this Month!

The state of Florida in the USA is renowned for its theme parks, and there’s a wealth of entertainment on offer, both within and out with the theme parks, in the month of October. If you’ve decided to take out a car hire with Avis then Florida has a lot to offer, both in terms of the specific theme park events, and those in other venues. Many of October’s events are concentrated in and around Orlando, and will be within easy driving distance of the city centre.

Walt Disney World hosts perhaps one of the longest-lasting Halloween parties of all, with ‘Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party’ running from September 10th through to November 1st. Billed as being suitable for all ages, the attractions on offer include parades, fireworks shows, and trick-or-treat events all around the park. Running over roughly the same time frame, Universal Orlando Resort present their ‘Halloween Horror Nights 23’, which promises a maze of haunted houses, live shows and scare zones. Many other theme parks are offering Halloween-themed parties and attractions, including ‘Brick-or-Treat’ at Legoland, ‘Howl-O-Scream’ at Busch Gardens, and Seaworld’s ‘Halloween Spooktacular’.

In a less scary vein, and still early in the month, Sarah Brightman’s Dreamchaser World Tour arrives at the Amway Center on the 8th, in a concert rescheduled from earlier in the year. Brightman is the only artist to have topped the Billboard Dance and Classical Music charts simultaneously, and was the first to have been invited to perform theme songs for the Olympic Games on two separate occasions. With global sales exceeding 30 million units, Brightman has received more than 180 gold and platinum awards, making her possibly the world’s biggest-selling soprano of all time. ‘Dreamchaser’ is her 11th studio album.

Over a period of three days from October 4th, the Orange County Convention Center hosts the Orlando Home Show, a home improvement extravaganza featuring daily ‘how to’ presentations, and special appearances by DIY and cookery stars from many popular TV shows. The promoters promise fun and inspiration across the whole of the show floor, whether visitors are looking for assistance with specific home projects, or are just looking for an entertaining day out. The show operates free admission for teachers and other education employees on Friday 4th, designated as ‘Educator’s Day’.

Ripley’s second annual Oddtoberfest takes place on the 12th of the month, at Ripley’s Orlando Odditorium, on International Drive. The event features live music, food trucks, carnival games and other children’s activities, along with presentations and demonstrations, including karate skills, trick roping and other less conventional activities.

Finally, and to round off the month, the Amway Center hosts a special Halloween concert with Nine Inch Nails and Gary Numan. Nine Inch Nails are touring in support of their new album, their first in five years, and appropriately enough for a Halloween performance, their single released from the album is titled “Come Back Haunted”. This concert marks a radical departure from the previous evening’s fare at Amway, a concert from popular vocal crooner, Michael Buble.

The Best Time to Visit Guam

It would be advantageous for one to know the best time to visit Guam in order to have a decent holiday in this part of the world. It is interesting to take note that this country is related to Philippines in two ways. Geography-wise, they share a very close proximity though they are both from a completely different world demarcation (Philippines in Southeast Asia while Guam in Micronesia). Another common denominator that both these countries share is history. They were both ruled by the Spaniards and Americans. Guam is a fairly decent tourist destination for those seeking to enjoy a tropical island holiday. But one can always have a distinct advantage when he or she understands the value of the calendar. Dates serve two purposes: it tells the season variation as well as the important events in the country. These factors highly affect one’s vacation experience in this distant unincorporated US territory.

Top 5 Trademarks of Holland

Guest post by Maria Kruk, an author for Holland.net

Holland is mostly associated with weed and coffeshops nowadays, as it is one of the states where light drugs are absolutely legal. Such a glory guaranteed Holland’ popularity worldwide, and, thereby, thousands of tourists visit this country every year. In particular, the culture of coffeeshops, special cafes where drugs are “served”, is widely distributed in Amsterdam, especially around the world-famous Red Lights District. It is important to note that foreigners are allowed to smoke marijuana in coffeeshops in Amsterdam exclusively, whereas Dutch residents can do this in other cities. In other worlds, Amsterdam is the only place in Holland, where tourists can have “weed experience” without breaking the law. In addition, there are lots of keepsakes related to marijuana and cannabis in souvenir shops, including chocolate and candies.

best coffeeshop in Amsterdam

Besides weed and coffeeshops, there are plenty of other things that are usually envisioned in one’s mind if speaking about Holland. The common idea that Holland is a country of flowers is quite exemplary. In fact, Holland is famous for its annual tulips festival in Keukenhof, the biggest flower park in the world. Floriculture might be considered one of the historic features of Dutch people, as it was established in 1599. As time passed, florists also started to cultivate roses, orchids, hyacinths, irises, and, as a result, flower fields are real travel attractions at present and at the same time a profitable business. By the way, in Amsterdam one should definitely visit Bloemenmarkt, the biggest flower market in the neighborhood, where it is hard to remain indifferent to surrounding beauty.

Dutch cheese is likely to be sold all over the world. In Holland, on the contrary, cheese is manufactured in every village and some cheeses even were honored to be named after prominent cities. One should know Gouda, Maasdam, Edam, etc. These are the highlights on local cheese festivals, markets and fairs, arranged regularly in Holland. The history of cheese-making is claimed to begin 200 BC, as there were found records featuring local cheese in diaries of Julius Caesar. Dutch cheese appears to be a real delicacy of the country, and it is a must-try exactly where it is produced.

If speaking about symbols of Holland, it is impossible to miss windmills. The first one was constructed in 1260 and in the 17th century there were about nine thousand windmills dispersed over the area. These facilities played an important role in livelihood of both villagers and citizens; till nowadays one can notice saw-mills, flour-mills, oil presses in the shape of mills, and many others, but the primary function was to pump waters from low-lying lands. 90 per cent of windmills worked as turbines in swamp areas. Even today water pumping is an urgent issue in Holland. Naturally, a windmill is likely to be a visual symbol of Holland.

In souvenir vendors tourists may pay attention to small-sized clogs. The thing is that Dutch clogs have been traditional shoes of common people for several centuries. In contrast, only rich people could afford boots. Clogs often helped to identify, where their owner had come from. The most beautiful and skillfully painted clogs were made in Friesland region. The clogs’ tradition is adhered to date, as more that 3 million pairs of clogs are produced in Holland annually and a lot of villagers still prefer to wear clogs while working on the field.

Top Mediterranean Breaks, without the Hustle & Bustle!

It’s fair to say that some of the Mediterranean islands are the life and soul of summer holidays, with thousands of holidaymakers flocking to their shores year after year to top up their tan and get their dose of summer sun. But, what happens when all you want is a taste of the quiet life? Is there a Mediterranean island that would accommodate? Sure there is!

While the popular island hotspots, such as Majorca and Ibiza, have their fair share of quiet, more tranquil resorts, it’s the less popular islands that hold the key to true relaxation. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle and spend a week or two in the sun without the inevitably overcrowded beaches, here are some of the best places to go.

coastline and port in Menorca

Menorca

By booking your Menorca flights from flythomascook, you can enjoy the low-key atmosphere or this beautiful island in no time. Home to more beaches than her neighbours put together, the main aim of a holiday in Menorca is relaxation. Whether you’re travelling with children or not, there are ample resorts to choose from to suit your requirements, with plenty of attractions, excursions and activities available if you can peel yourself away from the beach for a day or two.

Cyprus

Located in the eastern Med, Cyprus is a bolthole for relaxation and while it certainly has its vibrant resorts, it’s also home to some stunning, peaceful resorts too, such as the western coast and Coral Bay, south of Paphos, which is a quieter alternative to its neighbours.

Malta

From the historical sites and incredible culture to the modern sights and nightlife, Malta has something for everyone. The beauty that the island radiates should be enough for a visit.

Whether you choose one of these islands or you’d prefer to head for the mainland, if you’re after tranquility, there are plenty of options for you.
